Accounting Manager/Director
 
The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) has an immediate opening for an experienced Accounting Manager ready to take on the next level of responsibility or a junior level Accounting Director ready to leverage those skills to help an organization that makes a real difference for the future of the accounting industry and aspiring black professionals.  
 
On the Move
NABA is growing into larger, more dynamic organization, adding staff and expanding efforts in all of its functional areas.  Successful candidates can work independently, meet deadlines, engage multiple stakeholders, and be a multi-tasker.  In addition, the person in this role must be able to shift back and forth between "big picture" projects (help develop accounting policies and procedures) and more task oriented (posting journal entries) work.   
 
The Big Picture
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager/Director of Accounting position directs the accounting and control functions, ensures accurate accounting systems and recordkeeping, and reports the results of operations.  This role manages the day to day accounting operations and manages daily cash flow. This Role will be expected to recommend Association finance and accounting policies and procedures as well as establish and maintain controls and processes to protect the assets of the organization.
 
In the Weeds
Perform a variety of accounting duties, including accounts receivable, bank deposit verification, general ledger and financial reporting.  Process receivables payments. Code receivables for the General Ledger. Prepare reports on A/P, A/R and reconcile to the General Ledger monthly.  Process credit card payments.  Process invoices for products and services rendered. Enter vendors in data bases. Download bank records daily and conduct reconciliation. Prepare monthly financials. Assist COO in constructing annual operating budget. Develop and deliver monthly, quarterly and annual reports (balance sheet, P&L, forecast statement of activity, actual versus budget).  Create monthly reporting package for Executive team. Oversee the cash flow of the Association, supervise the management of A/P and collections and the revolving line of credit. Manage banking and investment relationships.  Oversee tax administration and government reporting and compliance. Establish and maintain controls and processes to protect the assets of the organization. Collaborate with external auditing firm and serve as the auditors’ primary contact within the organization. Collaborate with investment managers to analyze performance, prepare reports and make recommendations to the COO.

Making the Grade
In addition to having the skills and experiences described above, candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, 6 – 9 years in accounting related field, 3 – 5 years at management level, 1 – 3 years of direct nonprofit accounting, preferably in the association space. Must understand the complete accounting cycle and how it relates to the association and its mission. Must understand each department’s role and how the information becomes a part of the financial statements. CPA or CMA a plus!
