NABA North Carolina Central University Student Named White House Initiative Scholar

NABA North Carolina Central University student member Jameerah Ali was named as a 2018 HBCU Competitiveness Scholar.  She has been named by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.  This program recognizes outstanding student performance in higher education. Claire Babineaux-Fontenot Named CEO of Feeding America
Feeding America, September 24, 2018 
NABA Lifetime Member Claire Babineaux-Fontenot will become Feeding America's new CEO effective October 1, 2018.  She will be based in the nation's largest hunger-relief organization's Chicago office.  Claire is a seasoned leader who has held leadership positions at Walmart, Adams and Reese LLP, PwC (formerly PricewaterhouseCoopers) and in government. Students like sophomore accounting major Antonio Gamboa wanted to spread the messages and goals of their respective organizations. As a member of College of New Jersey NABA student chapter, Gamboa emphasized inclusivity.

FMPA Appoints Linda Howard as Power Agency’s CFO

Help us congratulate NABA Orlando founding member, Linda Howard, on her recent accomplishment of becoming the first African-American CFO for Florida Municipal Power Authority (FMPA). FMPA announced the promotion of Linda S. Howard to Chief Financial Officer, filling the position after the passing earlier this year of the power agency’s previous CFO, Mark J. Larson. “Linda’s broad financial experience in our industry, excellent qualifications and strong leadership track record made her the best choice for this position,” said FMPA’s General Manager and CEO Jacob Williams. “We are pleased to add her to our senior leadership team.”  READ MORE

Congratulations to Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director of New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA), for being awarded an NJBIZ 2018 ICON Honors award, which recognizes New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 for their outstanding achievement and strong leadership. A NABA Lifetime Member, Ralph is a member of the NABA Northern New Jersey Chapter and a former chapter president. Crowe LLP Leader Aims to Boost Racial Diversity in Accounting

NABA board member Herschel Frierson is featured in this Bloomberg article on boosting the racial diversity in accounting. At Crowe, Herschel has helped increase this number by building a recruiting partnership with a historically black college in Tallahassee, Fla. As a NABA leader, Herschel has helped organize multiple student conferences. At the 2018 NABA Convention, Herschel was presented with the Frank Ross National Outstanding Member of the Year award, which recognizes someone who is exceptionally dedicated to NABA’s goal of elevating black accounting and finance professionals. Colleagues and friends told Bloomberg Tax that Herschel has personified this mission throughout his career, helping permanently diversify his firm and profession long after he retires. READ MORE

Senior Exhibits Leadership in Academics and Extracurriculars

Christopher Feazell One of Ten Seniors Named to Ole Miss Hall of Fame

An accountancy major, Christopher is one of ten University of Mississippi seniors that have been inducted into the university's 2017-2018 Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors afforded a student. Christopher is a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. He served in several roles over the course of his education, including vice president of programming for the National Association of Black Accountants, vice president of the Black Student Union.  Christopher plans to pursue a master’s degree in taxation in the university’s Patterson School of Accountancy. NABA Twin Cities Celebrates Local Millennials During Black History Month

NABA Twin Cities hosted their 3rd annual Black History Month celebration to acknowledge and celebrate the journey of Black people in America. NABA Student Chapter Leads 'Operation Get Home' Initiative with Local Sheriff's Office and 'Divine 9'

Bethune-Cookman University's NABA Chapter partnered with the Volusia County Sheriff and members of the 'Divine 9' to educate and inform B-CU’s campus on how to react if someone were to open fire on campus. The event had over 80 student participants, as well as a demonstration of how to physically defend against an active shooter. NABA Announces Partnership with AICPA Foundation to Expand ACAP

Accounting Reminded This Plattsburg University Standout of Editing a Film

Prior to attending PSUC, Shiyiheeim Nartey-Tokoli attended a film high school. During that time, he participated in a theater camp, was a part of a Broadway show and was heavily interested in the film industry.  As a resident assistant of Moffitt Hall, former artistic director of Night of Nations, the vice president of club K.I.N.K.S. and co-chair of event planning for the NABA student chapter, the double major in accounting and finance is always busy.  READ MORE          

NABA Member Gene Padgett Helped Form the BPA - They Now Present the 8th Annual Event Benefitting Children in Houston, November 2017    
Gene Padgett and Carmen Herrera of the National Sales Network started out with four organizations and has blossomed to over twenty in the past eight years.  They formed the Black Professional Alliance (BPA).  The BPA will present the 8th Annual Holiday Social and Toy Drive.  Literally thousands of children have recieved toys as a result of the efforts of this conglomerate of professional black association and organizations. Felicia Haynes is treasurer of the Virginia Tech chapter of NABA, and studied abroad in the Dominican Republic this past summer.  During her first year on campus, Haynes participated in the mentoring program run through the Presidential Scholarship Initiative, which paired her with a junior from her hometown. Accounting Profession’s Commitment to Diversity Reflected in Scholarship Support for Jenkins MAC Students

Only All-Black and All Women Team - NABA Houston Student Chapter - Places High at KPMG International Case Study Competion
NABA - University of Houston, October 2017    
KPMG held the university round of their international case study competition and our student chapter had a group of women comprised of both officers and members compete. These ladies made it to the final round and ended up taking 2nd place. Unfortunately, the regional round will only be taking the #1 team. This was a huge accomplishment for the NABA team as they were the only all-black and all women team out of approximately 20 competing teams. View Team
