Accounting Finance Pipeline Initiative

The Accounting Finance Pipeline Initiative (AFPI) program is a two (2) and four (4) year high school program designed to provide inner-city youth with the opportunity to realize their full potential as future business leaders. The primary goal of AFPI is to provide student participants with those specific tools needed to prepare for a post-secondary education in finance and accounting. The program has increasingly challenging project levels designed to prepare at-risk inner city high school students for post-secondary education in the areas of accounting, business, and finance. It also includes an introduction to the world of investing.

A key component of the AFPI is our High School Investment Program (HSIP) which is designed to enliven the approach to learning core academics, including math; and research has shown there is no better way to learn the importance of saving and investing. It teaches and reinforces the following essential skills and concepts:

  • Critical thinking
  • Decision making
  • Cooperation and communication
  • Independent research
  • Saving and investing


HSIP incorporates current events and other news into real world data and real-time internet research in a simulation model. The competitive gameplay creates student excitement while the educational experience delivers the biggest impact, making the simulation of investing a true mirror of the real marketplace.

Students who participate in HSIP learn more than investing. As they progress, they learn core academic concepts and skills that can help them succeed in the classroom, and in life. Participating schools find that attendance and dropout rates are reduced. Students who participate in the program gain confidence and build self-esteem. They have fun and learn more effectively as they see how their classroom lessons apply to the real world.
